The sun was casting shadows on the ground,
as the men filed into the sweltering room.
These men of valor had been beaten down.
Days of browbeating and bellicose proclamations,
had brought them to their knees.

These men desired God's Free Will,
the will of the individual to decide his fate
unbridled from the forces of man.
Their enemy was the never-ending human condition,
the want, the lust...for privilege, prestige and power.

In the days preceding this,
they held quarrelsome debates,
they were losing all their common ground.
For this desperate unborn nation,
time was running out.

Divine Providence had delivered them this far,
and it was the cause for their kneeling.
This much they could agree on,
this leap in human consciousness,
no mortal could create.

The hand of God reached out to them,
cleansing their hearts and minds.
In their time of hopelessness,
these men found compromise.

They formed a land of freedom,
but the battle did not end.
The conflict is everlasting,
stay vigilant my friend.

They pledged their lives,
their fortunes,and their sacred honor.
What are you willing to give?
Is what they might have pondered.
